About Contoral

The Contoral device provides continuous delivery of a proprietary saliva-stimulating gel.  The gel contains active enzymes, including xylitol, that stimulate the salivary glands.

Salivary flow is necessary to prevent tooth decay, gum disease, and plaque buildup. Without sufficient saliva, food turns to a thick paste in the mouth.  Xerostomia can cause trouble chewing, swallowing, and eventually malnutrition.  Additionally, people with xerostomia complain of social isolation and being unable to participate in family celebrations due to these eating difficulties.

How it Works

The Contoral device is a two-chamber container held in place by a pocket.  One chamber holds a proprietary gel (saliva stimulant) and the other holds a propellant.  When the plug is removed from the device, the gel is slowly squeezed out.  The container can be used for the entire day.

To obtain the Contoral device, xerostomia patients will visit an approved dentist in order to have a custom-made appliance.  The device is held in place by a pocket, which can be placed on any oral appliance, such as a dental retainer.  The pictures below show examples of pockets and oral appliances that can be used to hold the container safely.  The pocket can also be attached to other oral appliances such as dentures, false teeth/crowns, or dental bites.
